Prepping Your Hair for New Year’s Eve

Two girls having their picture taken on New Year’s Eve

With Christmas upon us, your social calendar is probably more hectic than ever. While looking your best over the party season may seem to be the most important thing on your mind right now, have you actually considered the damage that your heated hair appliances are causing your hair?

We’re all guilty of using our hair dryer/curler/straightener without using heat protectant every now and again, but repeated use can prevent your hair from looking its best over this important time. In the run up to New Year’s Eve, there is an increased likelihood that you’ll want your hair to look better than ever!

One of the most luxurious things that you can do to pamper yourself over the Christmas period is to take some time to yourself; coat your hair in a hair mask and whack on a Christmas film to really unwind. If you’re wondering what the perfect combination of ingredients is for your hair, then check out our guide below!

Protective moisturising mask

If you’re looking for the perfect mask to restore your hair back to its healthy, voluminous-self, then why not try this moisturising mask. With the colder months reeking havoc with your scalp, your hair, whether it curly or straight, may be in need of a helping hand. The combination of mayonnaise, which replaces any protein your tresses may be missing, with the vitamin A from the avocado makes this ideal for winter!

Ingredients

¼ avocdado

½ banana

2-3 tbsp olive oil

2-3 tbsp mayonnaise

Step 1) Wet your hair before lightly drying to remove any excess water

Step 2) Blend all the above ingredients together to make a smooth paste.

Step 3) Apply to your hair and wrap in towel.

Step 4) Leave for 15 minutes.

Step 5) Wash and dry hair as normal.

Split-end treatment

So you’ve been out a few times over this festive season – who hasn’t?! However, if you feel as though the constant styling and use of heated appliances on your hair has began to take its toll, this is the perfect mask for you. Although strawberries are no longer in season, they are still lurking about in supermarkets, so grab a punnet and make this easy split-end treatment.

Ingredients

1 cup strawberries

1 egg yolk

3 tbsp olive oil

Step 1) Using a blender, create a puree-style substance from the strawberries, before adding in the egg yolk and olive oil.

Step 2) After making the paste, apply generously to you hair working it into the strands thoroughly.

Step 3) Cover with a shower cap and leave for half an hour.

Step 4) Rinse with cold water before lathering your hair with your favourite conditioner, leaving it for five minutes to allow your hair to soak up its benefits.

Step 5) Hop back in the shower to rinse the conditioner out, before shampooing and styling as normal.
